Cultural Sites in the 16th Arrondissement
Let's start with a few must-see museums…
A slightly quirky, hidden spot—that's the Balzac's House. Among the elders villages of Auteuil and Passy, nestled at the top of a Parisian building, the writer’s final home has remained true to its era. With its view of the Eiffel Tower, it houses a museum with permanent collections, a garden, and even a coffee shop where visitors can grab a bite to eat.
Not very far away, the Le Corbusier Foundation It houses the artist’s entire personal archive and art collection—all within a building designed by Mallet-Stevens! An invaluable resource center, especially for researchers…
And then, of course, the must-see Marmottan-Monet Museum which alone houses the world’s most extensive collection of works by the Impressionist painter Claude Monet. Originally intended for Paul Marmottan’s First Empire art collection, this hunting lodge on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne also houses a few paintings by other Impressionists such as Morisot, Renoir, Degas, and Manet… A real gem!
If you choose to venture a little further into the Bois de Boulogne, the Louis Vuitton Foundation, a spectacular glass structure designed by architect Franck Gehry, welcomes you to explore the impressive art collection of the group’s CEO, Bernard Arnault. It’s the perfect place to discover major permanent and temporary art exhibitions.
